LIVE TARGET Hollow Body Frog Popper

We got the call to field test the LIVE TARGET Hollow Body Frog Popper with Gary Abernethy and we jumped at the chance. Putting the lure in front of some nice sized fish was the goal, and we did just that. Gary showed off his skills casting the lure deep into the thick vegetation and enticing some amazing hits. The water swirled as the lure was sucked down below the surface and the game was on. Gary worked the first fish through the grass and up to the boat, where he showed us the lure deep in the throat of the hefty largemouth.

The fish that are willing to hit the Hollow Body Frog Popper are not going nip at the bait, he explained. They are going to pounce on it with a vicious effort because they are eating in a predatory manner usually in thick cover.

This style of fishing allows you to cover a lot of water quickly, you can concentrate on openings deep in the grass, but you can expect a strike at any time. We caught fish in in the small openings surrounded by vegetation as well as in open water.

Above you can see the battle tested lure with wear and tear from aggressive strikes. Also note, we were using braid to help secure fish that are deep in the grass. Gary says, “you need the strength of the braid to pull those bigger fish out of the deep cover”
